Approval Committees
ABIM Approval Committees are responsible for approving all assessment content and maintaining the blueprints for certification, Maintenance of Certification (MOC) and the Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment (LKA®) in internal medicine and its subspecialties.
These Approval Committees play a critical role in defining their respective disciplines. ABIM has designated Approval Committees for 20 disciplines with unique committees for those disciplines in which the LKA is available.
Composition
The Approval Committees aim to maintain a composition that reflects the diversity and complexity of the physician and patient populations that certification serves. They comprise entirely practicing, board certified physicians with active certificates in their respective specialties. All Approval Committee members meet ABIM's requirements for MOC.
