About Governance

ABIM Governance members are critical to important work in the field of internal medicine:

• Helping to define the knowledge, skills and attitudes that board certified internists and subspecialists demonstrate
• Providing perspectives on trends in medicine and the scope of their discipline
• Collaborating with peers to develop fair and relevant assessments for physicians

About the Item-Writing Task Forces

All ABIM assessment content is created and reviewed by practicing physicians. The Item-Writing Task Forces in each specialty of internal medicine write questions for the initial certification examination, the traditional, 10-year MOC exam and the Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment (LKA^®). The Approval Committees review, revise and approve assessment content for testing and final use on every assessment.

About the Community Insights Network

Interested in getting involved, but don't have the time or capacity to commit to a full governance or volunteer role just now? Consider joining the Community Insights Network (CIN), a large volunteer group of physicians who serve as a sounding board for ABIM's newest developments and enhancements. Respond to surveys, join user testing groups and panels, participate in interviews for your feedback—as little or as often as you wish. On average, CIN members devote about an hour a year to their volunteer work. No application is necessary; every diplomate qualifies.
