Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism Board
The Specialty Boards and Advisory Committees aim to maintain a composition that reflects the diversity and complexity of the physician and patient populations that certification serves. They include both practicing physician members and public members representing interdisciplinary healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers.
Dr. Twining is an ABIM Board Certified endocrinologist and Medical Director at the Maine Medical Partners Center for Endocrinology and Diabetes, a group of eight endocrinologists in Scarborough, Maine. She practices general endocrinology with a focus on thyroid disease, metabolic bone disease and transitional care. Additionally, Dr. Twining is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts School of Medicine and teaches Tufts medical students and residents at Maine Medical Center, where she also serves as an advisor to internal medicine-pediatrics residents.
She has been a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) board of directors since 2015. She served previously as AACE's representative to the Young Physicians Section of the American Medical Association and as the Fellow-in-Training Representative to the Board of Directors. She also served on the board of the New England Chapter of AACE and was its president in 2013-2014. She has served on many AACE committees, including Endocrine Training Support, Socioeconomics, Chapters, Membership, Pediatric Endocrinology, and Endocrine University and the Task Force on Women in Endocrinology, among others.
Dr. Twining has an Artium Baccalaureus from Harvard College and a medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. She completed a combined internal medicine-pediatrics residency at Yale University followed by an endocrinology fellowship at the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Basaria is a reproductive endocrinologist and the Associate Director of the Section of Men’s Health, Aging and Metabolism at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He is ABIM Board Certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. He also serves as chair of the ABIM Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Traditional, 10-Year Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Exam Approval Committee.
Dr. Basaria is a clinical investigator in the field of male reproductive endocrinology. His research interests include assessing the efficacy of testosterone therapy in cancer-related fatigue, pain perception and aging, and assessing the cardiometabolic consequences of androgen deprivation therapy in men with prostate cancer.
Dr. Basaria also provides clinical care to patients with a variety of male reproductive disorders, including patients with cancer and those with opioid-induced hypogonadism. Additionally, he is a mentor to junior faculty and endocrine fellows pursuing their careers in reproductive endocrinology.
Dr. Basaria is the Associate Editor of The Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences and has previously served on the editorial board of The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. Previously, Dr. Basaria led the section on Male Reproduction on the Self-Assessment Committee of the Endocrine Society and was also involved in developing the Endocrine Society's Male Androgen Deficiency Performance Improvement Module, which practicing endocrinologists use towards their Maintenance of Certification requirement. Dr. Basaria serves as a member of the National Institute of Child Health and Development’s Special Emphasis Panel on Male Contraception, and on the National Institute on Aging’s Panel on Aging and Mobility.
Dr. Basaria received his medical degree from the Medical College of the Aga Khan University. He completed house staff training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and his endocrine fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Gianoukakis is a Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He joined the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Internal Medicine faculty in 2002. He is ABIM Board Certified in Internal Medicine as well as Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Dr. Gianoukakis is the Director of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Endocrinology Fellowship Program and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. He has also served as president of the Association of Program Directors in Endocrinology and Metabolism. His special interest focuses on autoimmune thyroid disease, thyroid dysfunction and thyroid cancer. Dr. Gianoukakis is investigating molecular markers as a diagnostic tool in thyroid cancer.
Dr. Gianoukakis is a member of the International Thyroid Oncology Group and the Southern California Thyroid Cancer Consortium, and a principal investigator of clinical trials investigating the utility of small molecule kinase inhibitors for the treatment of advanced thyroid cancer.

She has been a nurse for 31 years and a Certified Diabetes and Educational Specialist (CDCES) for 20 years, working with people with diabetes in the inpatient, outpatient and community settings. She has assisted several hospitals within Northwell Health to achieve certification for Inpatient Diabetes Management from the Joint Commission. In 2018, she also became a board certified Nurse Coach and board certified Holistic Nurse.
Ms. Hasse is a member of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (ADCES). As a CDCES, her experience has included trying to improve transition-of-care within Northwell Health and ACDES Community of Interest groups. Ms. Hasse is also the Co-Chair of the Diabetes Best Practice Work Group in Northwell Health, which works on creating policies, protocols and order sets to improve the care and safety of those living with diabetes in the hospital.
Ms. Hasse is an instructor at the Center for Learning and Innovation at Northwell. She has been a speaker at Northwell conferences and presented posters at national conferences, in addition to several publications including “Development of a Diabetes Learning Needs Assessment Tool to Promote an Individualized Predischarge Patient Education Plan.” She is a co-author on a chapter of Diabetes and Covid-19, “Risks of Covid-19 in Persons with Diabetes,” and a co-author on a charter, “Inpatient Diabetes Education,” in an upcoming book on the topic of diabetes management in hospitalized patients. She is also an abstract reviewer for The Journal of Patient Experience. Ms. Hasse has also received several Mentor Awards from the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education and by ADCES.
