Credentialers
Ensure accurate, up-to-date primary source verification of American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) board certification.
ABIM no longer issues certificates with end dates. However, ABIM recognizes that some entities require a current certification status for primary source verification. This status is updated annually.
You're encouraged to use ABIM's annual re-verification date of April 1 to obtain accurate information about a physician's current certification status. Visit abim.org/verify, or use the tool below, on April 1 each year to ensure you have the most up-to-date information.

Important Notes
- ABIM has introduced changes to its Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program and its board certification status reporting processes. In addition to reporting board certification, ABIM reports whether or not ABIM Board Certified physicians are participating in MOC (i.e., engaging in MOC activities regularly).
- Physicians are publicly reported as inactive if they were once certified by ABIM but now, for non-disciplinary reasons, no longer have an active medical license in any jurisdiction.
- There is growing recognition and agreement from the public, consumer groups and medical organizations that assessing knowledge and performance every 10 years is not sufficient. A status of "Participating in MOC" recognizes those physicians who are keeping up with changes in medicine.
- The changes to the MOC program requirements apply to all ABIM Board Certified physicians, regardless of when they were initially certified.
