Quality and Practice Improvement

ABIM Board Certified physicians have opportunities to participate in quality improvement/practice improvement (QI/PI) activities aimed at enhancing the quality of patient care within their practices, while also earning Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points.

These activities enable you to develop actionable insights and drive measurable improvements in clinical outcomes.

Key Steps in QI/PI Activities:

  1. Identify an improvement opportunity: Examine your clinical practice to identify an area where improvements can enhance patient care.
  2. Implement a change: Develop and apply a change strategy to address the identified opportunity.
  3. Measure the results: Evaluate the impact of your intervention using relevant metrics to determine its success.

Earn MOC Points Through QI/PI Activities

Physicians may be able to earn credit for carrying out QI/PI projects as part of your practice through medical specialty societies, hospitals, medical groups, clinics or other health-related organizations. Many of these activities are eligible for MOC points.
