Collaborative Maintenance Pathway

The Collaborative Maintenance Pathway (CMP) is jointly developed by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).

This assessment pathway offers cardiologists more choice, relevance and convenience in meeting the assessment requirement by integrating lifelong learning with assessment. The shared goal is to continually improve all educational and assessment processes for physicians to stay current in knowledge and practice—ultimately in the service of better patient care.

Eligibility

You can participate in the ACC/ABIM CMP if:

  • You are currently certified by ABIM and not in an ABIM exam grace period. You can check your certification status by signing in to your ABIM Physician Portal.
  • It is offered in your specialty:
    • Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology
    • Cardiovascular Disease
    • Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology
    • Interventional Cardiology
  • You are not currently registered for an ABIM assessment

How it works

  1. Purchase the relevant ACC Self-Assessment Program (SAP) for five years of access.
  2. Enroll in the CMP on ACC's website.
  3. Refresh your knowledge by engaging in the CMP topic(s) for the year.
  4. Score 70% or better on the practice questions for the year's CMP topic(s).
  5. Take and pass a Performance Assessment for that year's topic(s). You will have two opportunities and your performance will be sent to ABIM in order to accurately report whether you continue to meet your ABIM assessment requirement.
  6. Repeat steps 4 5 each year.

Please note: interventional cardiologists must also complete procedural requirements. Learn more.

Associated Costs

Participation in the ACC/ABIM CMP involves two separate costs:

  • ABIM annual cost to participate in MOC*
