Traditional, 10-Year Maintenance of Certification Exam

The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) offers the traditional, 10-year Maintenance of Certification (MOC) exam for physicians seeking to maintain their board certification.

This comprehensive assessment evaluates a physician's knowledge across their specialty and is available in all ABIM disciplines.

Eligibility and Registration

Registration for all ABIM assessments opens annually on December 1. Physicians can schedule their exam through the Physician Portal. Appointments are filled on a first-come, first-served basis by Pearson VUE, ABIM's testing vendor.

Physicians who are unsuccessful on the traditional, 10-year MOC exam can retake the exam during any future exam administration. There is no restriction on the total number of opportunities for re-examination.

Earn MOC Points

Physicians earn 20 Medical Knowledge MOC points for every attempt of the traditional, 10-year MOC exam.
