Preparing for the Exam
The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) understands that preparing for board exams can be a particularly stressful time.
As a program director, faculty member, fellow or chief resident, you play an important role in fostering a culture of integrity and ethical behavior among residents and fellows. You're encouraged to speak with both trainees and faculty about the importance of upholding exam security and to help them understand the potential consequences of actions such as item sharing, cheating or participation in unauthorized board review activities.
As candidates prepare for the exam, it may be helpful to:
- Refer them to the General Policies, which include information on exam ethics and professionalism.
- Preapprove your candidates’ board curriculum/syllabus.
- Check in on board prep sessions within your program as you would with morning reports and noon conferences.
